Bringing Back The Classic Cocktails
The Tequila Sunrise
Remember cocktail hour? Cheap drinks and hors d’oeuvres served during a “cocktail lounge’s” (man am I showing my age or what?) slow time. Usually between 5 and 9, something to entice people to congregate after work before heading home. I don’t even know if that’s happening today. My participation in happy hour stopped when seat belts still went around your hips (if you had them).
Cocktails Are Like Fashion
What does fashion and alcohol have in common? You have your trends that come and go, year to year. Flavored booze is all the rage right now, from whipped cream vodka to habanero chili spiked rums. A few years ago it was the start of the micro-breweries, brewing designer beers and ales. Now there is an explosion micro-
My all-time favorite place to get a designer cocktail is Tommy Bahamas, maybe it’s also because it’s also in my favorite place to be…. Destin, Florida! Two or three times a year we are fortunate enough to be able to stay at a friends fabulous condo over looking the pristine white sandy beaches. While there G and I make a couple of trips to Tommy Bahamas restaurant, G gets there ribs and I get the fish taco’s and one of their designer cocktails.
There are so many to choose from, it is never an easy task, but I always try to pick a new one. The good thing about Tommy Bahamas cocktails? I’ve never had one I didn’t love! Bad thing about Tommy Bahamas cocktails? Even with the recipes… they are hard to duplicate at home because of all of the specialty booze they use. Classic Cocktails Are Like A Chanel Suit
With all of the specialty cocktails and designer booze, there is something to be said about the Classic Cocktails. You know – the Old Fashion, the Side Car or how about the Tom Collins? All of them great cocktails and all doable with just a standard bar setup! I think there should be a place for the Classics in everyone’s home bar.
With the help of BHG, I’ve put together what I think are the best of the best classic cocktail. For full recipes click on the photo below and it will direct you to BHG’s website where you can get all of the recipes. If you don’t partake in the alcohol, many are great virgin mocktails. Above all… we aren’t in the 70′s where we may or may not have the knowledge or smarts to not drink and drive. Today …. we all know better so PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY, HAVE A DESIGNATED DRIVER, CALL A CAB, BUT WHATEVER YOU DO - DON’T GET BEHIND THE WHEEL AFTER DRINKING!
